How to apply
The Oxford–Max-Planck Doctoral Programme is a joint doctorate: your research is co-supervised, and you will spend time at both institutions during the programme. In order to join the programme, you must be admitted separately by Oxford University and your chosen Max Planck Institute.
- Approach potential supervisors:
Although it is not strictly necessary, it is strongly recommended to identify and informally approach potential supervisors at both Oxford University and a Max Planck Institute before applying to the programme. You can find the list of academics in the table below:
Oxford University Max Planck Gesellschaft - Prepare your application materials:
Prepare a statement of purpose, an up-to-date CV, and complete the application forms. In your statement of purpose, make sure to specify the names of your potential doctoral supervisors. - Plan the timing:
Make sure your submissions land within the relevant reviewing windows. Applications are generally accepted on a rolling basis. However, applying by the December deadline might help you secure an Oxford scholarship to cover Oxford University's tuition fees.
Checklist
Once submitted, your applications are reviewed in parallel. If you are shortlisted, you may be invited to interview to discuss your research interests, background, and how you would work across the two environments.
